Gabriela Tarcha was born in São Paulo (Brazil) in 1981.
She studied dance at Unicamp and at Anhembi-Morumbi University in São Paulo before graduating from the dance-makers department at ArtEZ in Arnhem in 2005. She has been working as a free-lance maker and performer in a number of projects and collaborations in Portugal, Brazil, Cyprus, Greece, Austria, Germany, Spain, Holland and UK. Her pieces were performed at ITS Festival in Amsterdam, ACT Festival in Bilbao, MAYDAY! in Antwerpen, TANZ|hautnah in Cologne, at.tension#2 in Lärz, off limits in Dortmund, Theatermaschine in Giessen, 638kg Tanz und weitere Delikatessen in Essen and Dance Kiosk in Hamburg, among others. She has worked in choreographic residencies at tanzhaus-nrw in Düsseldorf and artblau tanzwerkstatt in Braunschweig. In 2006 she took part in a production by Dogtroep in Amsterdam and for many years she worked with Alexandra Waierstall, having performed lately Crossing Borders at tanzhaus-nrw, kampnagel and The Place. In 2008 and 2009 she performed urban interventions in the centre of Salvador da Bahia at the festival CORPOCIDADE in Brazil and in Weimar at the event KoCa inn (Kiosk of Contemporary art inn). exc ept ion> state of), one of her latest pieces – created in collaboration with Ingo Keil – was performed at UIT Festival in Nijmegen. Together with Susi Rosenfeld, Fernanda Ortiz Losada and Axel Lindner she premiered recentlyHome Improvement, which was funded by Der Ministerpräsident des Landes NRW. With the project untitled performed  in Berlin – on the streets and at Tacheles - she concluded in June 2010 her Master in Choreography at Dance Unlimited Arnhem. As well, she has been leading classes and workshops at the Bachelor’s program of ArtEZ in Arnhem and at Schwelle7 in Berlin, among other places. Currently based in Cologne, she now pursues further dance science studies at the Zentrum für Zeitgenössischen Tanz.
